T in the Park

T1

Thirteen years ago, when T-in-the-Park first came to Kinross, some of us leaving the Church one rainy Sunday morning, saw groups of wet, bedraggled youngsters looking in vain for somewhere dry to hang out.

We decided something should be done for these youngsters. A case of Christians in action: especially on a weekend when those going to T-in-the-Park have to pay huge prices for basic supplies, yet so often may just need a place to rest and dry out; basic facilities which we supply.

Over the years - gosh, we feel so old! - we've honed the system to the highly efficient enterprise it is today: a place to get good food at a ridiculous price. But recently, we received the ultimate accolade from one of regulars, 'You're part of the culture now.'

One of the nicest comments ever made to us!

In 2007 we celebrated our tenth anniversary with cakes and balloons and singing and all the rest of the party stuff that goes with birthdays. The clients loved it. We also had a lovely present from the Big Day Out team; ten tickets for there Core group!

Why are we so popular? We supply free coffee, tea or juice; our prices are ridiculous - full fry-up for £1 and the prices have never changed in twelve years. Realistically, we should lose money every time, but we never have yet. In fact we give our surplus to different charities every year, amounts ranging between three and five hundred pounds. We also supply dry clothes and dry-out wet ones, provide areas to rest and...Come and see for yourselves!

We have a core group that over the years has developed into a group of ten. It convenes twice or thrice (including a debrief) before the weekend when all the arrangements are agreed and finalised; buying, volunteers, finances and whatever arises.

Not only are we popular with those that attend for their breakfast, we’re hugely popular with the volunteers who man the centre, helping on the door, cooking breakfast, clearing tables, and doing the dishes, amongst other things.  Volunteers come from the different churches within Kinross and Milnathort and from those who stay in the town and beyond.  So if you’ve not yet volunteered and want to become part of “the culture”, contact Fiona.
